Griffin

The griffin (or gryphon, or griffon, as you prefer) is a pretty old (pre-Silver Seams, I think) creation and I don't seem to have a final picture of him. In this picture, he has "sausage feet" - I had planned to needlesculpt them and add claws, but after I put them on I decided I didn't like the bent-back toe (barely visible in the side view). I replaced them with loosely curled talons, and it was a great improvement.

He doesn't appear in the open source sewing patterns because he was made from a combination of two commercial patterns (the head is from Jodie Davis' endangered-species book, and I don't remember the name of the lion pattern book or author). I do plan an open-source griffin as part of my Bestiary project, though it probably won't bear much resemblance to this guy.

Update: I have some planning sketches (1, 2, and 3) and a blog label for the gryphon pattern.)
